  12.     BACKGROUND
  13.  
  14.       Stacker's Setup converts only mounted, fixed DoubleSpace 
  15.       drives.  However, Stacker's DCONVERT program easily converts 
  16.       a removable disk, such as a floppy disk, a Bernoulli, or a 
  17.       SyQuest.
  18.  
  19.       The following procedure assumes you've already installed 
  20.       Stacker. 
  21.   
  22.     SOLUTION
  23.  
  24.       For this example, let's assume that Drive G: is a Bernoulli 
  25.       drive that was compressed with DoubleSpace.  In the 
  26.       conversion procedure, you will check the drive for any pre-
  27.       existing problems, run a program called DCONVERT to convert 
  28.       the drive, and then mount the new Stacker drive.

  30.                    NOTE:

  32.         Because it is not yet a Stacker drive, Drive 
  33.         G does not appear in Stacker's drive map.
  34.  
  35.       Check for any pre-existing problems
  36.  
  37.         1.  If you are in Windows, please exit to DOS.  The 
  38.         procedure works only under DOS.
  39.  
  40.         2.  Insert the removable disk into its drive.
  41.  
  42.         3.  Check the drive for any pre-existing problems.  At the 
  43.         DOS prompt, type:
  44.     
  45.             CHKDSK G: <Enter>
  46.     
  47.         Let the DOS CHKDSK utility fix any problems it finds.

  49.       Convert the drive to a Stacker drive
  50.  
  51.         1.  Find the name of the compressed volume file by typing:
  52.  
  53.             DIR G: /AH <Enter>
  54.     
  55.         2.  Look for a filename such as DBLSPACE.000.  Note the 
  56.         name to use in the next step.

  74.             DCONVERT /C G:\DBLSPACE.000 <Enter>

  76.         where DBLSPACE.000 is the drive to be converted to a 
  77.         Stacker drive.

  79.                     IMPORTANT!
  80.  
  81.               DO NOT INTERRUPT THE CONVERSION PROCESS! 
  82.               If you do not let DCONVERT finish, you 
  83.               may lose data.
  84.  
  85.       Mount the new Stacker drive
  86.  
  87.         DCONVERT converts the drive into a Stacker drive.  The name 
  88.         of Stacker's "volume file" is STACVOL.DSK.  If you're using 
  89.         only one removable drive, Stacker Setup automatically 
  90.         allowed for it.  So, when you insert your removable disk 
  91.         into the drive, Stacker automatically mounts it.

  94.             TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF STACKER SAFETY
  95.  
  96.       Stacker Optimizer can recompress your data safely, giving you 
  97.       double the disk capacity without the DoubleSpace risks. 
  98.   
  99.       To recompress your data with the Stacker Optimizer:
  100.  
  101.         1.  At the DOS prompt, type:
  102.     
  103.             STAC <Enter>
  104.  
  105.         2.  Choose Stacker Optimizer.
  106.  
  107.         3.  Select the drive you want to recompress.
  108.  
  109.         4.  Choose Restack.
  110.     
  111.         Stacker recompresses the data on the selected drive.
